Titan Farms Brings the Peach Joy to Florida Elementary School

RIDGE SPRING, S.C. - May 6, 2019 - Last month Titan Farms, the premier grower, packer and processor of peaches in the Eastern United States, brought the farm to Lakewood Elementary in Fort Pierce, FL to educate first grade students on agriculture and peach growing practices. Titan Farms Sales Manager Sandra White along with local Florida peach farmer Adrian Morales from Riverside Citrus Harvesting teamed up to teach students peach growing practices.

This community education opportunity came to fruition when Farm to School Specialist for Child Nutrition Services at St. Lucie Public Schools invited Titan Farms into their classrooms as a tie in to the peaches in their school menu. According to Donnelly and Lakewood Elementary Principal Dianne Young, Lakewood Elementary is one of the poorest schools in the country, making this presentation even more impactful.

"Our presentation was really exciting to the students in a way we never imagined," said Morales.  "All of the students who attended the presentation were very eager to learn, asking question after question. They were so enthusiastic, which made sharing our knowledge with them even more meaningful as we believe it is important for all children to know where and how our fruits and vegetables are grown. Educating a young generation of children about food sources can help them and their parents make important healthy choices in grocery stores and their everyday diets."

During Titan Farms' presentation, students were also able to sample peaches grown right in their county, making it hit home even further.

"This education presentation was truly a one of a kind experience," said White. "It's not everyday that you get to talk to students that are genuinely interested in learning about peaches and growing practices. I hope that there are more opportunities like this in the future. We love our peaches and it is very encouraging to see the new generation get excited about eating healthy produce!"

Florida peaches are available for two more weeks as they lead into the South Carolina peach season. For more information, contact Sandra White at (803) 685-3500.
